Why Live doesn't send "All Notes Off" when we hit stop?

I work on a project with a lot of Midi, and every time I hit stop, the midi notes continue playing. In this piece there is a lot of strings.

I am stuck with a string pad every time.

It's getting awfully annoying.

So when I hit the stop button again to shut it down, the position of the cursor brings me back to the beginning of the song.

This is also insanely annoying.

To me it feels like a bug, Even if I've live with it for years, it can't be normal.

I try to think of something, can a max for live patch fix this?

Any Ideas?

Thanks

According to my tests (with a midi monitor) Live correctly sends at stop "note-off" messages for all notes which are currently playing. However, it doesn't send a "sustain-off" message which may lead to hanging notes if sustain (cc64) is on. Could this be your problem?

Yes, it makes total sense! So is there a solution?

I have this hanging note issue as well. Really annoying, and it really hurts my ears.

Btw, can't you just deactivate the corresponding channels for the desired effect?

The sustain problem can be solved with M4L. For example, here are 2 devices.

If I understand correctly, doesn't pressing stop three times send a 'kill all notes' message?

Yes, but also brings the timeline to the beginning of the song. Sometimes, shift-spacebar is cool to continue listening...

I found a solution!! I have been battling with this for the best part of a decade and have complained to Ableton SOOO many times about this. It's completely ridiculous why they haven't sorted it out by now and we have to instead rely on a max for live device for something so basic for any piano/keys players. You'd think that sorting out sustain pedal bugs and some of the more basic features would take priority over Ableton designing another gimmicky plugin with ableton 11, but there you go.

Here is the solution:
https://maxforlive.com/library/device/7176/sustainer

Download and drop it into the relevant folder in your plugins folder in your user library. Then load the plugin onto the offending midi track on the default setting and it does the rest for you! Hope this helps some people 🐸💕
