Hi there,

Im looking for a midi beat repeat M4L plugin which executes very basic CD2000 Style beat functionality. I found the Omni looper M4L plugin:

Thats exactly what I need with one exception. I need this plugin to behave like the standard Ableton audio beat-repeat plugin when the loop or beat repeat functionality is stopped. The standard Ableton audio beat-repeat plugin creates a separate audio buffer for the looped -or beat repeated part of the audio and when this is turned off Ableton switches back to the original audio track. The original audio track does not stop playing in the background and thus when the plugin is switched off the original structure of the audio stays intact.
This is not the case in the Omni Looper M4L plugin. When stopped Omni Looper re-enters the track at the end point of the loop thus altering the original structure of the music.

My Question:
Does anybody know of a midi beat repeat plugin that has the above described functionality?

I've not had time to test it out, but from what i have read it controls the clip loop parameters within live. If this is the case, then you could try to set a clip to legato mode and use that as your "original" loop. I'll admit this is a blind guess, but its worth a shot. My understanding is this plugin does not actually sample anything - it controls loop points of existing clips in Live. This is actually quite different to the way beat-repeat works, and is therefore limited by the core functionality of clips in Live. Hopefully, legato mode will help.

For what its worth, i tried something similar to this using just clips. The first clip in the channel containing a 2 bar loop set to legato (this was my original loop), and beneath i sliced the sequence up into clips with 1/8 loops. Setting the top clip to legato mode enabled me to drop out of the loop at the right point in relation to the original sequence. It worked ok, but i found the setup process a bit tedious and it didn't really fit with my workflow. Admittedly, I did not spend too much time trying to fine tune it but it might work for you.

It can probably be done but there are challenges. I made a midi looper and realized that stuck notes are an issue because sometimes you start looping a section before a note off message is recorded. I can send cc123 at 0 to kill stuck notes but I havent found the perfect method to make it all work right.
