Help - what am I doing wrong ?

Bit of a dumb newb question, but it is really holding me back from using Live. Please help !!!!
Loops I use in Live have a horrid and unwanted modulation effect (and sometimes distortion), and it becomes more pronounced the more I move away from the recording speed. These are from commercial loop CDs - in this case Jazz World. The same loop in another program (or WinAmp) sound fine - have I cocked something up in my default settings or something ?
links below are to exported snippets of a loop reccorded at 65bpm and play back at the same speed, "live loop" is the output of live, and "Other loop" is from Tacktion.

haven't listened to the files, but have you played with the warp modes? you need to experiment with the different settings. and keep in mind that the ableton sound engine is designed for on the fly action, which results in some quality loss. however, trying different warp modes will get you to a better result.

Does "a loop reccorded at 65bpm and play back at the same speed" mean, that this loop is originally (i.e. from your sampling CD) recorded at 65bpm?
If yes, has Live recognized the correct tempo of your sample? It sometimes has problems to determine the correct tempo especially for files not containing drums (that have clear kicks). So maybe manually set the original tempo of the file to 65 (in the sampe's info field).

If it is a perfect loop and you want to play it at the original tempo then just turn looping off and use follow actions to make it loop however many times you need.

Correct.

It has.

Do WAV files need to be "Acidized" to get the best out of Live ? Some loops have no problems, most have this modulation and distortion effect though.

No. You need to switch the warp mode from beats to texture or tones, and play around with the settings until it sounds it's smoothest.
