Live Freeze

Don't know if this is Live related, but in 1.5.2 I always experienced following :

When leaving Live inactive on my win2000 pro pc overnight (minimised or maximised) , Live was completely frozen and sometimes my whole PC was frozen needing a hard reboot. (Only Live as active application)

Now in Live 2.0b2 , it doesn't freeze up completelyanymore , but acts if there was a big latency (eg. start clip - takes 5 seconds before it gets triggered ) When I stop all clips again and trigger a scene again, now Live behvae normally ... Like a car that has been in the cold and needs warming up ...

Hi Mbazzy,

Beside the problem you described I noticed a lot of strange behaviours with power off / sleep modes of the most computers. Very often also the audio/midi hardware is not working after coming out of sleep mode. I have this issues on my list (beside hundred of others -:)) but it's always again a question of priority and how much time to invest a special problem.

By the way, the warming up idea is really good. We should insert a "Live temperature" view someday.

regards,
Alex

Thanx ... now I know it's a known 'problem' , not only my setup, and not really Live's fault ...

I have always wondered about this too. One thing I really like about Ableton is at least they will acknowledge known issues so the users don't think they are going crazy. You'll never get a response like that from Digidesign.

Around 90% of problems i experience with computers occur after waking from sleep.

i always turn sleep mode and all that other junk off. i dual boot my pc so have a 'clean' install for music related stuff only.

and i'd never leave a program open overnight like that. you get all sorts of problems, it's just windows i think, although maybe win 2000 / xp cleared this up, i still never do it.

My computer doesn't go to sleep, but I know if I leave it on overnight (winxp), all my usb stuff is dead in the morning. It also did this in Win2k. This includes my USB keyboards (not the keyboard, but midi controller keyboards) and my audio interface. It doesn't just do this in Live, but in any case.

Do you use any Midiman Midisports? I've had an occasional problem with them misbehaving under certain circumstances and have the device act as though it was unplugged. This causes the driver to have problems, and actually can crash Windows 2000.

The first thing I disable on any new computer is all the sleep and hibernate modes. I have only found them to work well on computers with no external devices.

Same here - SUDDEN DEATH BUG:

WIN98, No Sleep Modes, Power Management and the like activated!
Live 1.5, 2.0b1,2.0b2 and 2.0.1

Live freezes completely. Not even the Task-Manager on the PC can
allocate Live or its existance. To go on working properly I have to reboot.
This all happens after ca.2 hours after launching LIVE!
