Good for you!

Alcohol is a stupid, silly intoxicant.

I have my vices. I've been through my addictions. Hell, I still have my fun. But Alcohol is something I'll never wrap my head around why people get so in to it. I use to have a drinking problem when I was a young teen. It was all I knew. I'd drink vodka, or beer, get drunk, pass out. Then I started smoking grass and gave it up. Seriously, much better alternatives out there.

Nevertheless, everything in moderation. Good to hear you've got that beast under control! You can always have fun, indulge a little. The key is to know when enough is enough, when to say no and put it down. That's the hardest part.

my kind suggestion, if you don't want to fall off the wagon, is: avoid ABSOLUTELY to watch this video (italian national TV 10/25/2013, prime time)

Damn, I just watched it and now I'm...

Well, you are lucky enough... it's only whiskey, after all. Here in Italy (and in France, too) an entire generation of communist revolutionars gave up the fight and started assuming heroin after watching this:

good for you giving it up. sometimes i want to, but mostly i dont. i love the taste of beer. and the one pint fuzzy head feeling it gives me. i am fully aware of the total waste of time and money it is though. but i also find it hugely enjoyable. so i'm in 2 minds... :?

I find nothing wrong with the occasional indulgence in an intoxicant, no matter the form. As long as responsibility and moderation are applied, harm can be greatly reduced. Knowledge is euphoric! Know what you put in to your system.

On the topic of Alcohol, it disgusted me to find out Alcohol is technically classified as a toxic chemical. Yet we water it down in a sense and consume large amounts as a species, which is pretty funny and depressing at the same time. Meanwhile we outlaw and ban substances that are not only less harmful but could very well be used in a medicinal sense, however no research is ever truly conducted on the human effects of said compounds, instead we are given Nicotine, Alcohol and Caffeine as our legal drugs, with of course the hefty dose of prescription pills on the side.

Ah, I digress...

(06-27) 02:16 EDT SEATTLE (AP) -- In March, Audrey Kishline allegedly drove her pickup truck the wrong way down Interstate 90, smashing head-on into a car in an accident that killed a man and his 12-year-old daughter.

Kishline, who police said had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit, has since been charged with vehicular homicide.

What makes the case different from thousands of other drunken-driving cases is who Kishline was: The founder of a national group that promotes moderate alcohol intake among problem drinkers.

After the accident, Kishline said she realized that Moderation Management, the organization she founded in 1993, ``is nothing but alcoholics covering up their problem,'' said her lawyer

It's mine and a lot of other people's opinion, that leaving the door open at all will put an individual at a greater risk of going back.
Although circumstance (you don't drive for instance) makes it less likely that a future bender due to outside stress, and this door being left open, will cause others much harm; in my opinion advocating the occasional drink as you "stopping" on public forums is socially irresponsible.

I've gone from half a bottle of whisky every night, to two small bottles of lager at a restaurant every 6 months on a special occasion, and found it easy, and you're calling me socially irresponsible? I say you're talking out of your arse. Are you an expert on this subject?

So you think that if you ever had a bottle of lager you would turn into an alcoholic? I agree that for proper alchos it's safest to stop completely, I just said so. Are you another one who can't comprehend what's written down in front of them? But I know that I'll only ever drink on rare occasions, and it will never be a lot.

However with cigs, as I said, I've not had a single one since I stopped 4 years ago.
Perhaps you should give up breathing next.

You don't drive, hell from what you say in your posts you can barely walk. You advocate "responsible" drinking, yet agree that moderation can lead to tragedy. Then when it's pointed out that you advocating moderation publicly is socially irresponsible this is what you post? I rest my case.

I seriously fail to see how you can so blithely disconnect the two circumstances? you succumbing to the bottle, then quitting except on special occasions, and the total failure of the moderation movement so perfectly framed by vehicular homicide? I'm of the opinion you can do what you want of course, but public gloating about it is again, socially irresponsible.

I don't talk to the bottle (yet...) so I don't give a shit about my alcohol's IQ...
And regarding "better alternatives" - I hate needles!

This is the biggest bull I've ever heard...
Without booze I usually don't sleep like 4 days and nights in a row...
After couple of divorces, on my 55th birthday I decided to quit with that feminine bull I grew up in and lived with ever since.
I'd never drunk on the regular basis before turning 55 years old.
All my drinking was like two or three glasses of wine on some rare occassions like 5 times a year or even less.
My bitches (mothers of my kids or so called "wives"...) were always on the opposite side of sobriety.
I had to carry them home many times after their wild parties... And yes, I was disgusted of their behaviour a lot.
Since I am an old and painfully experienced prick with no lust for the relationship of any kind, I just don't give a shit anymore.
And I can tell ya that nothing ease my pain of existence as good as a nice bottle of whiskey in the evening.
I've been drinking on a daily basis for a several years now and thanks to the booze I feel relaxed and fulfilled...
So keep your "12th steps" bullshit for yourself.
We drink because of stress!

what a load of crap is telling now the goddard here? 8O  He, who lives in that rich country, with all the comforts and such, talks like "i am the desperate man" haha

People drink alcohol and assume drugs just because life is full of shit and very hard. But not you, in your cheesy "I drink to forget the bitches". I mean real difficulties (hunger, cold, danger, fear etc.). That is why even primitive cultures have alcohol and drugs: because "the bitch" is not the woman, but life (... and then you die: that's all). So your alcoholic abuse is just a rich man's vice allowed by your state together with some drugs, pornography, cigarettes and shitty tv shows. Nothing else. Women have nothing to do with your brainwashed condition. Oh, and there is no need to act "the tough one" to communicate you are homo
