recording an arrangement & audio with push

Post by werblex » Fri Nov 08, 2013 7:33 pm

I'm finding this quite difficult to convey but I'll give it a go...I'm recording an arrangement which consists of mainly midi tracks and a drum racks device that control various hardware synths. I want to record the master out from my analog desk into the arrangement as I'm jamming away with the clips.

One of the cool things with push is how you can flip between different parts of a Drum racks clip using the lower right hand 15 pads and record this into the arrangement. However, if I try to select the track which contains the Drum rack whilst recording then it disarms the track that was recording the master out from the desk.... The only way around this it seems is to arm all the tracks however this leaves lots of annoying blank clips throughout you set where a clip from session view was not playing.

I suppose what I want to know is, is this a known issue, a bug or just a design flaw or what? anyone else have this problem? I never had a problem with this before, but maybe its because I wasn't using a controller....although I'm sure I did this using the apc40 with no issues. I think the problem is there is no 'track select' buttons maybe...

anyway sorry for the essay hope you can help and peace from north east wales

I don't know if overdub is the solution. But I'll ask if you've tried to implement that.

I am a little confused by the new record buttons in live, however I'm pretty sure this is a push workflow problem as I'm able to do what I want without Push. To clarify I need to be able to select tracks without enabling /disabling record arm. I thought I could do this with the SHIFT or SELECT buttons but It doesnt seem to be the case other than with audio tracks where one button push selects the track then the next button push arms it.

OK after looking into this further it appears that in session view (whilst the session button is lit on PUSH) it is certainly possible to select any track as described above without affecting the record status of other tracks...however as soon as the NOTE button is pressed it switches record enabled to the currently selected track.

I kind of understand the logic behind this: If you are using push in note mode, it may be reasonable to assume that you want to use the drum pads to play some sounds in during recording.

to summarize the issue: HOW TO SELECT A TRACK USING PUSH WITHOUT ARMING THE TRACK, AND THUS UNINTENTIONALLY DISARMING ANOTHER TRACK

You could go to Preferences -> Record/Warp/Launch and de-select exclusive arm! Don't know if this is what you're looking for...
