New Push user with "count in" question

so I'm new to Ableton Live and push.... problem Im having is when I use the rec button on the push I can never get my 1 bar pre count I set. Did some searching and read something about you don't get any pre count in over dub recording, this cant be right or a joke... then read something about if a clip is created its in over dub mode automatically and you got to be creatin a new clip but when I set my loop length it creates a clip so how the hell does that work.
All I want to do is lay down a drum part (hats for example) then get my snare ready overdub record and get my pre count then record my snare part and then same thing with the kick.
I hope there is something cause how they expect you to hit the button and move your hands that fast to start laying down the parts (speaking from the push). Did notice that the O button on the push doesn't correspond to the solid red rec button in live but to a similar circle hollow red button to the right of the transport. Any help would be much appreciated
