WARNING: DO NOT "REPLACE" YOUR INSTALL OF ABLETON DURING UPD

I did, and it destroyed my Ableton Suite 9 folder. I told it to replace and all that it did was leave the Resources folder. It literally deleted all of the contents except for just the resources folder. It rebooted Windows (8) and them restarted. The installer never did finish what it was doing. Instead, I have to now reinstall all of Ableton, it's packs, etc. This will take a really long time (lots of packs). A?nd, I have to reset up all my midi stuff.

DO NOT REPLACE. Instead, install to a new folder.

Update: I found the packs, stored somewhere else. You can install them if you had the foresight to download/save them. If you just downloaded them and installed them, you're in for a long process again. So, that's the upside. If you find the .alp file, simply double click on it and it will self install.

But, your best bet would be not to replace you install of Ableton, but to do it to a new folder, as it forced my hand and made me do that anyways.

What nonsense this is.

Yikes!

Not as bad in my case - all that happened was that some of my custom Midi scripts and skins in the resources folder had to be copied back in there

Strange. Earlier versions of 9 were usually pretty good at taking over custom settings from earlier installs 8O

Yeah, this was totally not the morning I was expecting. My buddy told me about the update so I did it. And, kablooey!

So, now I get to reinstall all this crap. It's probably going to take me all day to do that. These packs aren't small at all.

This has pretty much ensured that I'll never do another update/upgrade again with Live.

Yeah thats bummer for sure :(

I backed up my Live 9 and other files to my other drive, since I was in the process of doing a complete,re-install of Windows 7.

Trying to find my ALP,files on my other drive, but no luck yet.I have downloaded some packs using this free Download manager,as it takes a bit less time, pending on the file size of course

Overall not as easy as it seems

Oh. It gets weirder. For a year now, I have never been able to get Live 9 to record the automation from my ZeroSLMkII using the Automap feature. Now, since LIve installer totally screwed up my original Live 9 folder, and I had to reinstall to another folder, the automation now records.

I've owned the Zero for about a year, but have never been able to get it to do anything. I used it in FL, but Ableton was a bust. I was on the verge of selling it, as I spent the last two weeks fighting with it go get it to work. Nobody at either Ableton or Novation could offer any explanation why Automap mode automation recording would not work. Apparently, something in this update fixed it. By destroying my original Live folder, this new install enables the functionality of Automap 4.

Blessing in disguise? Or, just simply the stupidest thing I've ever seen? Hard to tell. But, now I know that it wasnt' me and that I'm not so dumb that I can't hit the record button, turn a knob, and be puzzled as to why it won't record it. It had nothing to do with me at all.

I'm happy that part is fixed (finally). But, I'm so not happy about having to reinstall all these damn packs. Looks like no recording for me today.

That sucks for sure but anybody doing updates or installs of anything without a bootable clone or at least backup to revert to is simply asking for trouble. If it all goes wrong you just incrementally clone back or simply drag/copy borked-up bits back again, this kind of thing shouldn't take more than a few minutes to fix.
There ends the sermon.

I'll remember that in the future. But, this is something that should have never happened to begin with.

they need to fix that little bug.

In Live 9.1 there are a lot of bug fixes,so hoping that this will iron out the wrinkles,ha,ha

But I always backup ,my stuff,as part of a housekeeping routine

As an example, all my ALP packs are in a folder on a separate drive,so if I need one I just install from there

external drives ,are much cheaper these days.I got a ITB Seagate for 40.00GBP :D

This makes no sense. Did you put your Live 9 library in the same folder as the Live 9 program? If so, you shouldn't do that, for precisely the reason you cite: You will generally want to use more than one version of the program with the same copy of the library.

All I know is Live asked me if I wanted to "Replace" my previous installation. My buddy said he did and suffered no problems. I wasn't so lucky.

If Live wasn't designed to "Replace" it's prior install, I'm not quite sure why the developers would offer that as an option during the upgrade. Either way, it did what it did. In fact, if memory serves, the "Replace" was the first option mentioned during the upgrade.

I have no idea where Live puts the libraries. I click on the pack and it installs. It never gives me an option to install them someplace else.
