Record into an open midi track

I can not record into a miditrack that I already have recorded something into.
I have to manually click in every note.
lets say I manage to preform just the half of the riff.
and I want to record in the last bit later...
how do I do that ?
At the moment I have to Duplicate the entire synth and tracks and then play the
last bit in a new "row".

There is an overdub button on the top of the screen. It gets a little confusing, but once it's sorted out, you forget it was ever a problem

I can see that button Marked + up there and it says "overdub".
However when I play a few notes. then stop and pause.
then want to RESUME the recording.
its no action.
...
I press record, have armed the midi track and the overdub (+) is on. and no action.

Try the 'Session Record' button also. When it is on you can overdub. Off lets you play around.

overdub works now. with the "SESSION record" the hollow circle icon ON. the + icon named overdub can however be OFF, doesnt make any differance. thanks.

Yeah. It has a different vibe from previous versions of Live. There are a few benefits and it seems to meld with Push or foot pedal control quite well, but it really jacks up the older workflow utilizing strictly overdub on/off rather than also having to deal with a session record button.
What gets extra frustrating about the Session Record button is that it often times applies to the highlighted row of the armed channel, and not always the 'currently playing clip'. . .
The plus side though is you can arm any channel and simply hit one single button (Session Record) to suddenly record into that slot, without having to deal with specific channel mappings.
I have Session Record assigned to / on my qwerty

Makes it very easy to play things in from the asdfghjkl row for note input.
