Hi folks,
I have a track almost finished in reason and i want to add effects then render it with ableton, i can hear reason play through the master out in ableton but when i render it and play the file theres nothing there???
I was told i didnt have to record the reason track into ableton, ableton would render anything coming through the master out???
Anyone please point me in the right direction
cheers

Hi the dark wizard,
firstly I recommend you to record the Reason song in Live and not to render it there. This is because a limitation of ReWire itself.
The ReWire protocol does not have information if the streamed audio from the slave (Reason in your case) to the master (Live in your case) should be done in real time (like a normal play or record) or as fast as possible (rendering).
Live itself has the same problem when you render within Live while it is running as a ReWire slave to another ReWire master.
So maybe this is the reason why it does not work in your case. It depends also how complex your Reason song is. You can try to render a simple Reason song (let's say one midi clip with one simple instrument) within Live and. if this works it would indicate that the correct rendering depends on the complexity of the Reason song.
But I you want to avoid these kind of trouble you should just use record instead of rendering.

Alex

Alex, so it is always better, safer, superior quality ( even if the diffefence might be minimal) to realtime record then render ? Timewise it is not so different. mostly I ´have no time to study, examine the 2 options, just need to finish the job but quality should be the best could be.
Is really the render to be just kept for really CPUkannibal VST that might be impossible to do in real time?
Didnt know about rewire limitations, it work easy with Reason 3, very often even leaving the midi rec in Reason and when ready, recording to Live.

Yes, especially as soon as ReWire is used.
