problems when soundcard gets disconnected

i've recently had problems with the firewire plug of my soundcard, and it disconnects quite often.
the trouble is, that about 4 times out of 5, when this happens, i get a "serious error has occured and live must quit" message. basically, live just crashes, even if i re-plug the device/re-select the asio driver in the preferences.
has it happened to other FW410 users?
i know you're not supposed to do it, but could some users of FW soundcards try to disconnect their device, and see what happens? at least, if this occurs while you're performing, you'll know if live can handle it.
i've tried it with a blank set (just 1 audio track), and live can handle it, but when i've got a complex set loaded, live just crashes.
any feedback appreciated.
also, if some ppl have advice aabout making my laptop's FW port safer, that'd be nice.
cheers.
