Problem with VB3

First off; I am using VB3 Version 1.4.

Here is my scenario:

1. I instantiate VB3 on track 4 and set the "MIDI From" to All Ins and All Channels
2. I create and arm a MIDI track and set the "MIDI From" to All ins and Ch 4
3. I set the "MIDI To" to 4-VB3 and 1_VB3
3. I go into the Plugin itself and set the Upper Keyboard to Chan 4, the
Lower Keyboard to chan 6 and and the Pedalboard to chan 5 respectively
4. I set my MIDI controller to send on chan 4 and then I start playing notes

The result is: VB3 senses my controllers (sustain pedal, mod wheel. Expression pedal, etc.) coming in on channel 4, but does not recognize the MIDI notes!

This is very odd because if I set VB3's Upper MIDI channel to 1, everything works fine with the above setup! The problem is that VB3 will not receive on channels 5 and 6 ... so I have no pedal board or lower manual. Ughhh!

Has anyone experienced this? Better yet, is their a solution to this problem?

I already called Ableton Customer Support and they could not figure it out!

I can't believe that no one has replied to my request for help! Oh well.

I discovered the answer however, today. It is: VB3 will only receive on channels 1, 2 and 3 while instantiated in Live9.

this is because
1) I think that VB3 just senses controllers on all channels
2) actually what live is doing is always transforming your midi to channel 1. So the only way to get data to VB3 second manual is to set an additional midi track and route midi into VB3 and 1vb3, 2_vb3 or 3_vb3.

thus your data will be transformed to that incoming midi channel of vb3.

any MIDI that comes int othe track VB3 itself looks in VB3 like it is coming into channel 1.

Yes, you have to use 1_VB3, 2_VB3 and 3_VB3 ... but VB3 still will only take MIDI input on channel 1, 2 and 3 regardless.

Marat,

Oooooops, my bad! You are absolutely right. The internal Global VB3 settings must be set to 1, 2, and 3 and then you can set the Ableton Live channels to anythings you want and it works correctly.

Thanks for your help Marat,

Phil
