I'm primarily a Flamenco guitarist, which means that I play a lot in 3/4 time signature.
I have a Push arriving shortly; I notice in the tutorials that the top four rows for the step sequencer (e.g. )use two measures of 4/4 time (8 pads), so a total of 32 quarter notes.

What I would like to do (in 3/4 time) is to have each row be a bar of triple meter, which means only six notes would play before shifting to the next row (the remaining two notes in each row would be ignored. (so each row has two measures of 3/4)

Is there any way to do this in Push, or (better still) is it already set up that way? Or, failing that, a M4L program?

Doesn't it do this if you set the grid buttons to triplets? Or is this something different?

Hello Chuck, I believe you can set it up to work this way natively, but I am at work and forgot exactly how, but I think this is how:

Use the time signature buttons running vertically to the right of the pads is probably what you're after. Choosing triplets mode should alter the drum sequencers layout to what you want.

Might interest you to know that you can alter the NOTE grid layout also by holding SHIFT+SCALE (I think, might be different combo, but it exists).

Triplets in 2/4 are not the same as six eighth notes (3/4 or 6/8)
This is a common source of musical confusion (especially for Flamenco)

(One issue is the definition of BPM; there are other differences as well; a BPM of 120 is different in 2/4 triplets vs. 3/4 time signature. That is, note groups are different from time signatures - the former describes the structure of a note, the latter the structure of a phrase made up of notes.)

What one need is the ability to choose the number of steps (6 or in the matrix. Usually step sequencers allow you to set this, and just key the cycle to BPM. Push/Live doesn't seem to allow this setting,.,...

I HATE the idea of music being dumbed down to 4/4 and InKey in order to make room for squeeks and squawks to dance to in nightclubs.,... But then, that's just me....

Fair enough. I don't know much music theory, I'm a DIY kinda guy. I play from the heart/gut and I like it this way. I certainly don't think I make dumbed down music for dance clubs just because I'm mainly in 4/4, but then you probably didn't mean that. For my musical purposes, music is primal and instinctive, and approached that way.

EDIT: none of the above answers your question though. Perhaps someone else knows of a way to accomplish what you require.

Haha, yes.

I've fallen out of love with the guitar of late (it's my main instrument). Or rather, out of love with listening to guitar-based music. It's mainly used as supplementary texture or rhythm nowadays in my largely synthesizer-based music. Synths that are as warm and organic sounding as possible, and carefully crafted and built so as to hopefully provide interest to the listener.

Anyway, I'm totally digressing off topic. Hope you can find some way get what you need with Push.

changing your time signature to 3/4 in Live then changing to anything with triplets on Push will RED out any useless pads.

You will have some overlap between loops due to the even number of pad rows but that's no big deal right?

On a serious note. How does Maschine step sequencing handle non 4/4 time signatures?
