copy / duplicate function

previously used live 8 on windows, now live 9.1 on mac.
New late 2013-MBP on Mavericks
I often used "Cntrl-drag" to duplicate clips in session mode or samples to nearby cells in drum rack.
I use this A LOT when making drum racks of samples.
Manual suggests Cmd-drag but this isn't working for me at all...
Can't get it or anything similar working on the mac. Obviously Cmd-D works for clips in session mode, but not in drum rack - not even copy/paste works there...
I'm sure there is a simple solution - thanks!
