Group track doesn't work like a true bus...

This is a bit disappointing. It would be nice if the group tracks feature actually worked like a true bus track.

Grouping is not bussing.
To bus in live, make an audio track - call it "mybus", set the input selector to none. Set monitor to "on".
Get your other tracks you want to bus, set their outputs to "mybus".
And thats how you bus in Live.

Yes that's what I have been doing. I just like the "easyness" of group tracks. What is the intended purpose of group tracks if not bussing?

Well, the older bus method has been around a while, but the newer grouping came partly out of requests to be able to "hide" tracks. Also, group tracks have group clips - so you can trigger everything which is grouped. It is not only a sonic group, but also a functional group.
I've always found my needs can be covered by one, other, or both methods combined.
What are you failing to do?

I love having the feature of a "Dry bus". It takes a few extra clicks but it still works with group tracks.

What is the main difference between "real bus" and group track.
I always thought Live´s "group tracks" is what "busses" are.

Group tracks can't be routed like bus tracks. But for simple bus needs group tracks are just fine. I just want all the features of bus tracks with the convenient group use and look.

Maybe be able to send one of the (grouped) track to one of the "normal" send/return tracks.

Agreed. That's an annoying one.

Proper routing. It's not fair you have to choose one of the other.

Huh? Grouped tracks have sends and can send just fine to return tracks. What's the issue here? Do you mean drum rack chains?

Still not clear on what you're after. Any examples? Like the ability to route other tracks outside of the group to the group channel or something? Just make the Group channel a normal audio channel?
I for one would like improved/easier routing on normal audio tracks to facilitate what people are looking for in 'bus' tracks, rather than add a new track type or something. If there was some kind of quick drag'n'drop method of routing, with all of the flexibility of normal audio channels, we'd almost not need groups or buses. Those input/output lists get pretty long and unreadable in large projects. Would be cool if we could multi-select a bunch of tracks and drag their output to the input of another or something (and vice versa for inputs)
