Solved: Can you play a Live clip, a Steam demo and YouTube

All at the same time? I have a Focusrite 8i6 and I can't do that. I can play one or the other but no 2 at the same time. I don't know if this is a driver or config issue but I'd really like to follow a YT M4L tutorial. I've tried different combinations of ins/outs on the Focusrite with no luck and Asio4all is no help either.

If you have any ideas on how to do this I'd love to hear your solution. If you can run the above 3 programs at the same time let me know what audio interface you are using. I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to change interfaces as the Focusrite has some other quirks that are very annoying.

System is Win7, 12 G RAM, i7 920 not OC. Live is Beta 9.1b3

Thanks,
Burt

I don't know about the Scarletts, but the higher (24 Pro and onwards) Saffires (Firewire) do multiclient-, even multi-ASIO-playback.

... under one condition: Sample rate has to be the same, because that is locked, once the driver is in use.
I have set my Windows driver to 44.1/24 - the driver does its own SCR for files with other sample rates.
I have set Live's preferences for I/O Sampling Rate to 44.1 as well, it does internal SCR for imported files, as well.
With Live open I can still play foobar2000 with the ASIO extension, as long as the file is 44.1, same with Sony Sound Forge 10. Both throw an error, though, when I try to open a file with a different sample rate, because they want to switch the locked driver's sample rate.

ASIO4ALL definitely is no help, because it demands exclusive access.

As far as I can tell, all rates are 44.1. Firefox uses VCL Web plugin to output youtube (or at least I think it does), but there is no config option.

Is this a problem with windows drivers not being sharable? I had forgotten about that as its so long since experienced that 'fun' :)

This kind of thing worked fine with my RME UFX (Im sure any current RME audio interface would be fine as well) and also the various NI audio interfaces I have (10DJ, 2DJ, AK1, 8DJ) back when I was still using windows 7/64 for audio work. I don't think I even had to set stuff tom go out on different channels either. I know Live, Traktor and Maschine used to happily share the same pair output as well.

Of course all works fine on OSX as well.

Fixed: Downloaded new drivers.
