Hi,
I'm just not getting where I can use general midi instruments instead of 'simpler'. I have midi files that I'd like to include in my mix but I don't want simpler, I'd like to use my Roland GM/GS instruments.
Any direction?

just drop instrument into the midi channel, hit record button to arm and play away.

I guess that's where I'm just not getting it. What instruments? I only show simpler, impulse and operator? I guess, where are the instruments?

Ah you need to set your plug in folder in options.... Then you can see it when you click on the plug icon on the left.

I appreciate your responses. Maybe I'm not writing it correctly? How do you call general midi instruments up? All I have is simpler/impulse/operator. There is no grand piano or flute or trumpet or anything of that nature. There is no reference to anything of this nature in the manual that I can find. The only thing there is reference to is assigning midi notes on the piano roll. These things I know well. What I need is to call up a general midi or Roland GS or Yamaha XG sound bank to use.
Where in sam hill is it?
There's got to be more than this techno shite.

Nope, there isn't. If you want a GM bank or whatever, you need a VST or AU plug with the kind of soundset you're looking for.

I guess it should work if you select as your midi output (in each midi track), the Roland (or Yamaha, or microsoft) GM midi device. you have to first enable it in the midi preferences menu.
then choose your midi progam with the progam change in the clips.
hope that helps, i've never tried it.
or get edirol soundcanvas or something like that.

it's not a VST, it's an Audio Unit, and it won't work on XP.
