I'm looking to get some cheap studio Monitors, a good set for under $250. What do you guys think of the DX4s, I don't really know of any cheaper monitors. Someone give me a clue!

The rear surround speakers from Betetec (Aaron) are very, very, very flat
and responsive to transients. The guy makes some of the best speakers in
the world, for about 1/10th the cost of name brands.
Prices on the site are AU dollars.... around US75ยข

I have some of these....

and these...

His unique driver design means these have so much bass in them u don't
need a sub.... thumps u'r chest even at low volume.... it does state 40Hz
on the site... but I hear good volume out of stuff lower than that... tho flat
response all the way to 20kHz where he tweaks it up just a few db for taste
an "sparkle".
Simply awesome..... I've seen him put them up against $25,000 systems
and seen the graphs of response, impedance etc, etc.... Kicks their ass.

I bought the DX4s to use as rear speakers for surround, with BX8s at the front. They didn't have nearly enough power to be heard over the BX8s, so I swapped them for BX5s.
But I really liked the DX4s on their own for what they are. On their own, they're a sweet little mastering setup. But don't expect much below 70 Hz out of the 4" woofers.

I owned a pair of NS10's for about ten years and needed to sell them - I bought a pair of powered nEar 05's for 2 bills. These are great for the money and when I can afford a great pair these will make an excellent second set.

Maybe see if you can get a pair of passive KRK ST6's and a cheap amplifier with bare wire binding posts (maybe a used Alesis or some kind of amp with recording monitoring in mind).
ST6's rock. Again, don't expect booty bass, but the mids and highs are nice and clean. I'm thinking about getting them for my home stereo. They're kind of like the present day version of NS10s.

I got a pair of ESI nEAR 05 monitors made in Taiwan. Very flat very clear all the way up and down the spectrum. I bought them for $249 at B&H in New York, you can mail order. Whatever you do don't buy Made in China electronics, you will be sorry.

Consider some Event TR5s. They are probably somewhat out of your price range, but rather than spending a little now on some monitors you WILL outgrow very soon, spend a bit more and get something that will last you. (TR5s are active as well, no hunting around for a good matching amp)

For $ 250,- i would take the LX4 system, because you get a sub with it, or i would take the BX5's.
$ 50,- more will get you KRK RP5 or Event TR5.

Thanks a lot guys, What do you guys think of the Mackie Tapco series? Would anyone know if they have those at GC?

I have heard amazing things aboujt the Wharfedale Diamond series - you can find the 8.1's for around $250.
Since I just took out my tweeters yesterday (dont ask how) I am in the market for an upgrade/replacement set of monitors and I am considering these Wharfedale actives.
Skip the Tapco - that company has been making garbage since day 1. I had an old tapco dual 15 band EQ hanging around and one day opened it up - the inside was a joke. Everything was crap - and the balanced inputs were a lie. A lie! They were not balanced at all - they were simply XLR jacks with pin 2 jumpered to pin 1! Nothing balanced about that - after seeing that, I suspect them of selling garbage.
