Hey all,

Ive been listening lately to alot of 80s synthpop music and this new genre called "outrun" and i was wondering if anyone had any insight on where/which VSTs are used in this music?

This is what i have found so far:

Drums - Alesis SR-16 or Linn Drum

Synths - Yamaha DX7, Prophet 5, Roland Jupiter 8, Roland W-30

Anyone know what people are using these days that don't have access to these synthesizers? which VSTs and stuff are happening?

This is a more modern sound from a group called Miami Nights 1984:

Thanks!

In terms of sampler emulation I think the decimort plugin does a decent job of emulating the MPC60 engine and the Commodore 64 engine.

There is a whole section within this months Computer Music about 80's 8-bit production including interviews with the very artists that used to produce for that era.

Defo worth a read if you're looking into this ;)

Yes I absolutely am interested! That link is to the 200th issue to buy. Is that where I find all the intel? I'm happy to buy it just not sure if that's what you were intending with that link

Yes mate, read down further on that link and it highlights what is in that issue - C64 Legends is the name of that article :)

It's a good issue anyway with with a boat load of tips and guides as its the 200th issue, plus if you are a PC user, there's a decent synth thrown in for free.

Also live has the Mirage preset in redux and it does a decent job at emulating that sampler.

There's also this: http://www.toneboosters.com/tb-timemachine/
for getting the gritty 80/90's sampler vibe.

it used to be offered for free, but now it comes as part of a 25eur bundle, so you might think of picking that up, otherwise the free demo disables saving settings, but, it *ahem* has 8 controls, and might look really nice macro'd up in an audio effect rack! If you get what I'm saying.
