Jump to and play a locator via a MIDI mapped button

Post by mgunthe » Fri Jan 10, 2014 2:52 am

Hi,

I'm trying to be able to jump to and play from a locater in Ableton 9 from session view during a live performance. In other words, to be able to have different sections of a song (e.g. chorus, verse, etc) mapped to different midi buttons so that I can just jump there in time.

I've tried this the simple way by just going into MIDI map mode, clicking on the locator and then clicking on the MIDI controller button, but for some reason it does not work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

If you're in session view, things can get wonky for two reasons.

1. If you have a clip actively playing in Session View, the material in Arrangement View on that same channel will not be playing until you hit the 'back to arrangement' button. Then instead of the session clip playing, you'll hear the arrangement clip. You can only play one Or the other.

2. If I'm not mistaken, this is a fun weird feature, when you skip to points in the Arrangement timeline, it changes the currently playing position of a clip playing in Session View relative to the context of the new timeline position. It's a strange thing to grasp, but can sort of be fun sometimes haha

Clyphx can do that with xcontrols.
