A few hrs left before 20% discount expires - questions !

I have 3 hours to decide whether to go for 20% discount upgrade from v6 t v9 !

Will Live 9 be the last version supporting Win XP ?

I know Abelton probably haven't said anything about this - but I suspect this is likely to be the case ..

Also is the audio quality of Live 9 any different / improved from older versions ?

Thanks

Not sure why that matters.

Also is the audio quality of Live 9 any different / improved from older versions ?
Yes, especially from version 6.

Sadly XP is still the basis of my main DAW, as I have hardware I use a lot & love, which only runs on XP.

I expect this will be the last version of Live to run on XP.

However I do have a "2nd" DAW i5 laptop running Win 7 64bit.

The temptation of all that comes with Suite proved to great to resist - have upgraded.

Wait for a slight bigger discount. Hopefully they will do a 25-30%. I have one license of Live 9 Suite but I would love to upgrade to other license to Suite. Ableton is not a generous as it's competitors when it comes to upgrade discounts.

i'm not sure if you're correct about XP, but i suspect you are...

Microsoft will stop supporting XP in April though. so, if you're still using XP after that, vulnerabilities that are discovered will continue to be listed, but no patches or updates will be released in response to them. if you're using your XP based DAW offline this is obviously not an issue, but if you have an always-on internet connection this could potentially lead to something you'd probably rather avoid.

Since you already went for it, congrats. Live 9 had some growing pains from 8 but 9.1 has been very stable and rewarding here personally. I don't think sound quality is better, I've become from the school that daw's pretty much all sound the same. But with suite, you get a ton of good quality stuff for a fairly reasonable price. Some features from the version you come from will be so welcome.

@XP: Meh, ditch it and go for win7x64 with at least 8GB of ram. You'll be able to run more ram-happy stuff and won't have to worry about crashes due to the 3.x GB limit imposed at your current XP system. Win7x64 makes me wet :D I love it every day and it loves me back. No seriously, I really have enjoyed going win7x64.

The audio engine is still the same beautiful ableton engine since the version 7 update. so no change there.
However, there is def better sound quality in v9. Lots of the effects have been rewritten ( compressor, EQ ) also on others the algos have been updated, filters in reverb, overdrive's distortion.... to name a few

Nothing wrong with windows XP. I only just moved to Win 7 around a year ago. XP has always been the best OS for audio IMO....until 7 came that is

On one hand it’s great that a 13 year old OS is still working for some people. On the other hand it’s upsetting that some people are scared to upgrade from a 13 year old OS, or can’t. :x

He said that his hardware wont work on newer versions of windows which suggest he is using some older midi controllers or sound cards.
I dont see why this would make you think people are scared to upgrade he already said he wanted to upgrade to live 9. Why does the operating system matter its just what runs the computer.
Some people are still using TOS and Amiga OS in their studio. Some people still use analog keyboards from the 70's Some people still use tape. Some people call me maurice Cause I speak of the pompatus of love. Some people are made for each other some people can love one another for life how about us.

I view recording to tape being done mainly out of nostalgia.
