Okay, I've decided to buy push and keep my APC40. I almost have enough money saved. My question: When I have both units activated, how do the outline boxes show up in session view? Is there a red 5-row box for the APC, and a blue 8-row box for the push? Do they automatically overlap or can they move independently?

How is navigation handled? Right now I often navigate the APC with my keyboard arrow buttons. Am I most likely to use Push's own arrow buttons and keep the computer keyboard arrows allocated for the APC?

If any of you use both, I'd love to hear just a bit about how it works.

I have used my APC40 and Push in a few live sets so far so i hope i can shed some light. In their default modes, APC40 and Push have independent "boxes" of each other. For example, I could have my APC40 focused on tracks 1-8 while Push manipulates tracks 7-12.

So, navigation between the 2 is independent, but they can both only focus on one track at a time (If you choose track 1, the APC40's track knobs and the Push's knobs will only reflect that of the currently selected channel).

Can you lock one of them to one channel and then still have the other move freely?

I'm not sure I understand. You can set one to be looking at 8 tracks (8x5 if APC40 / 8x8 if Push) and then one can move around independent of the other.

No I'm talking about the encoders.
Can one controller always control parameters on one track (locked to it), while the other moves freely and its encoders always reflect the track it's moved to.
