The auto filter just seems to be a normal filter. Why the "auto", then?
Also, aside from fade ins and fade outs and filter sweeps, what can I use it for?

The LFO automates it. Instead of it just being a filter you control by hand, it can move around on its own. Same with autopan. These devices go way back on Live so, it may not seem too impressive now haha

They also have an envelope follower if an LFO isn't impressive enough!
