Hi

I'm considering a purchase of this for use with Live and also with Resolume VJ software on a Win7x64 laptop.

I'd be interested to know your experience of the Launchpad Mini regarding ...

Ease of use for live settings
Robustness of build (do the buttons function well etc)
Driver stability etc

Anything like that would be useful to know.

One last thing ... does it come with a MIDI setup utility for creating custom MIDI mappings? I couldn't find anything about this on the Novation website.

Not really, but there is Launchpad95 and LPC-Live from NativeKontrol.

i have a launchpad and launchpad mini


much prefer the mini as you can hold it in both hands.

Update: Looks like Automap is applicable to Launchpad in some sense. More research needed....
Update 2: It doesn't seem to work with Launchpad Mini - there is no control surface for it in live, only for Launchpad,
and the Automap server doesn't seem to recognize the Launchpad Mini either....

It depends on the script, which may identify the device with a mfr. ID or even name.
I hsve never used automap or Automap Midi; I tried to get it to work using the "Launchpad" control surface, and the driver doesn't seem to work. I have absolutely no interest in troubleshooting the issue further. Launchpad95 is fine for me. I was just responding to the question below, and have no further dog in the fight.....

Is the mini not just simply a smaller version of the Launchpad?! So as a control surface you could try to just select Launchpad.
Besides if you use Automap you don't have to use the Lauchpad script, you set it directly to Automap Midi.
I use it with my Launchpad all the time, and for making Midi assignments it's actually quite a usefull software, as you can have multiple mappings that you can change with the page buttons in user2 mode.

So, as far as the mini goes, I've wondered how the playability and ergonomic feel is compared to the standard sized LP. the standard LP is almost a perfect fit for me, I've looked at music stores for any mini display models but found none. I really just want to know if it is something to recommend to friends.

But....... The new APC mini might be a dealbreaker. Same price, multi-color PLUS faders. And who knows what people will write for it.

FWIW, there is no selection for Launchpad Mini in the Automap driver application; only Launchpad.
I have a query into t/s about that....
