So I am try to record an improvisation of multiple tracks. I set a track to record master output. As soon as I move to another track it stops recording the clip. Wonderful!!!! I never had this issue back when I was using the novation sl automap stuff.

and no i do not want to record to the arrange window. that will not work for me because i am using numerology to send midi to multiple vst instruments that are all set to "in" so they will not record. i am shocked that ableton has broken this feature

This is one of the first things I try to warn people of. The monitoring pretty much kills my flexibility when trying to use additional controllers. :/

why don't they write a script so tracks and certain functions like resampling can be locked out of controller actions
they did something wrong because as i said before i could do this with novation sl controllers

No, you do, actually.
I think this is because of the auto-arm system with Push. But if you make sure to "really" arm the track (the arm button should be red and not just light pink) you shouldn't have this problem.
[edit after a check with Push in hands] No, actually you don't. And you're right. In fact, if you unselect exclusive arm in the preferences it's better but not consistent at all. It looks ok if you select other tracks with the track select buttons underneath the LCD screen, but if you do it with the left/right arrows the resampling clip will stop recording.

unbelievable that ableton has broken their own software functionality with their own controller

shouldn't be as simple as "if i want a clip to stop recording i will stop it on my own and not arrow movement halts clip recording!!!!!"
do they even test this stuff before releasing it?

I'm pretty sure it has been tested by Ableton. I guess a more "natural" approach for us dealing with this specific situation today would lead to some major conflict in Push's behavior. I didn't take time to think about what situation, though.
BTW, did you email the ableton support ? You definitely should.

maybe i'll record the output with my iphone5 if i could figure out how to get a stereo line into it

Class compliant USB audio interfaces are supported in iOS7. Since the iphone is a low power device it cannot handle the power on its own. So a powered USB hub is required. But then it opens up the option to hook up your Novation controller to the iphone also haha
The way to do USB into iphone is the USB to lightning camera connection kit. It is about $20. Careful to make sure you get the right one.

But then you can also record in arrangement view.

that will not work because i have many vst channels set to "in" because they are receiving midi with out recording it into clips
so those channels will not end up with anything recorded into the arrangement

If you want only want to record on the resampling track it shouldn't be a problem.
That's what you wanted to do at first, right ?

can't do it
as soon as i move to a new track in push via arrow buttons resample track stops recording
