using computer keyboard like an apc40 or launchpad

is it possible to setup some basic mappings on a computer keyboard to mimic the behaviour of a novation launchpad with the very basic clip launching/stopping. I would want to map a standard group of say 8 keys for clip launch and then have a movable 1x8 grid that i can move around session view to trigger various clips.
any thoughts on if this is possible.
