Benjamin Charlton, the paper's author, said: "The findings of this study provide the first support for Darwin's original contention that music evolved via sexual selection."
In each case they were asked whether they would prefer the composer as a short-term sexual partner, or a longer-term partner in a committed relationship.
The results showed that women only preferred composers of more complex music as short-term sexual partners when the risk of conception was at its highest, according to the study.
Dr Charlton said: "The ability to create complex music could be indicative of advanced cognitive abilities. Consequently, women may acquire genetic benefits for offspring by selecting musicians able to create more complex music as sexual partners."
Start working on making more complex music. Stop making weak dance tracks.

I see a convergence between this thread, my Countdown thread, and beats me's dry spell.

Beats we have the answer! Compose your own Coltrane-esque solos and you will get laid!

Why short term sexual partners specifically?

Is it because they know the father of the child will never be able to bring in any money?

I'm looking for commitment, which is why my music is childishly simple.

Well, that's what I tell the ladies.

I'm writing an atonal 7/8 jazz funk operetta based on the life of Leibniz. So don't be surprised if your wife cries out my name in her sleep.

Not that I feel like I need to explain myself but just for the record I'd be yelling 'Angstrom!' and she'd already know who that is because I'd tell her that's who wrote the operetta in 7/8 before we started banging to it.

Also, more likely she'd yell out 'Liebniz! (or '7/8!')'. So we'd both have a good laugh, and then head to see our couples therapist, who would most likely tell us to add a Chapman Stick to spice things up..

I already solved the Angstrom dilemma by getting divorced.

Neither of those things is going to happen.

I’m having a mad love affair with guiltless and unlimited free time and consumer spending. Attempting to get laid is at complete odds with that lifestyle, unless you have zero standards. I’ve lowered my standards to one sticking point: Must know when and how to use a turn signal. Apparently that’s still asking too much. :x

What about speed dating? Then you can just ask if they know how to use a turn signal and if they do, do they use it?
Ironically, I foresee a non-desperate asian milf eager to jump on a white hot rod in your future. Or we're just sharing browser history.

It's a testimony to the amount of metrosexual hipsters in my area that I've never noticed a sexual bias with that issue. :x
