I like to use the spectrum analyzer or the expanded view of the EQ eight to see the frequency content in my different channels. Is there any way in Live to get these spectrum tools to overlay each other? Can I plot each channel in the same analyzer and maybe get each one color coded? I would really like to find a way to do this so i can compare frequency content in mix downs. Also I am considering buying the Mix/Master bundle from iZotope containing Alloy 2 And Ozone 5. Can I get this kind of functionality with any of those software packs without buying the advanced versions?

Afaik you can't overlay with Live's spectrum. Perhaps there is some other vst?

i have Blue Cat's FreqAnalyst Multi. it does what you want

i think it's overpriced for what it does, but i have learned a lot from these kinds of tools. very useful indeed

FWIW, you can use multiple Spectrum devices to see multiple channels with a little trick I learned from another post on this forum. I made a dummy audio track and put two spectrum devices in the chain. In front of each Spectrum I put a Compressor with Sidechain turned on and the Audio From set to the Post FX/Post Mixer of the track I want to view and then turn on the blue headphones Sidechain Listen. Each of the Compressors inserts only the sidechain audio and Spectrum devices only show that channel-- and you can see them on the screen at the same time! On my screen I found I could fit five at a time if you double click one of the displays to put it in view mode. You can also switch the large view to any of the other channels by double-clicking it's respective display.

Certainly it's not as useful as having multi-channel in the same display, but hey it's a free hack.

i think there was a free version as part of the KVR DC12 but with more work to set up. this one is updated and hey, it's $5.

if you don't have max4live: iieq pro (http://www.ddmf.eu) is probably the cheapest way. it's an EQ, but it lets you look at the spectrum of 2 signals at once (but you can choose from any channel that has an iieq on it). edit: i didn't realize span does multi-channel now, if so, that's a better option.

there might be other options, not sure.

Melda's MMultiAnalyser seems to do the job too. Here's a video of it in action.

the melda one is pretty good. sometimes you can get it on sale at half-price (that's when i got it). you just missed the last sale though; ended yesterday, so it might be a while before it goes back on sale.

I tried this one. Sure it gives you basic information, however i found it a bit unstable and lacking in "viewing options". It was a bit of hazzle to use. Hopefully he will use my 5$ to continue contributing with M4L devices.

Excellent tip! After watching some YouTube videos i decided to go for this one. At 39$ it is a great tool and so far it seems to do exactly what i wanted! Even has "collision detection" and sonogram sections which gives me more information than i expected. Great!

According to the manual, voxengo span can't do more than two channels at the same time...
