Launchpad sequencer, Where to start?

Hi all,
This is probably going to come off as a stupid and particularly newbie-ish dilemma, but here's where I'm at:
I'm pretty new to Ableton in general and have only recently started to sink my teeth into it. I was lucky enough to be gifted Live 9 suite so although I have no idea how to use it I do have max for live. Ive never really had a need to use it beyond the pre-made presets until now. Recently Ive been fascinated with the sequencing style of 303s. I know that the 303 sequencer has been hated on but I find it particularly inspiring as a semi-improvisational instrument. Ive been trying to map my launchpad in such a way so that it acts like a 303 sequencer but have had very little luck. I got a little carried away with pen and paper trying to figure out what each of the 64 Launchpad buttons would do. I figure with the 8 x 8 grid there should be just enough room to cram a 303 style monophonic sequencer on the bottom half and a 909 style on the top, with buttons left over for step selection/visual metronome and maybe even the ability to call up different patterns. From what I can gather this is something that should defiantly be doable with max for live, although I am increasingly out of my element so maybe I'm wrong on that...
My question is this: Is it feasible? and if so is this a project that is way too far out of a beginners grasp for me to even be thinking about? Or is it a reasonable goal to work towards? Also I'm not sure where to start picking up max for live skills besides the built in tutorials and manual. Some direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
