Copy clips from session to arrangement view - best Practice

Hi all,
Looking for a bit of re-assurance that the way i`m working in live 9 which does seem to work for me is the best way to achieve a good mix.
I have a lot of clips in session view that I drag and drop into arrangement view and then apply effects and chop them up and edit them to suit the mixes I`m making. This works fine but I`ve noticed I don`t need to keep the clips in a slot in session view and can simply drag them straight to arrangement from my library browser.
Am I correct in thinking that this will only hinder further jamming with clips I`ve already used in session view and should see this as a try out area for ideas?? or should I be making sure each clip slot is filled with only clips that are used in the corresponding track number in arrangement view?
As i`ll be making some lengthly mixes I`d like to get this right from the off.
Also from what I can see it`s not possible to select a chunk of a track and shift that left or right along the timeline in arrangement view, is it then only possible to copy and paste to have the same effect??
