"Please start Live to play..." Issue?

A lot of the time when I turn on Push lately it does not connect with Ableton (which is open already) and says "Please start Live to play...".
I didn't have this problem before and I'm not sure what changed.

Restarting Ableton fixes it, but my Ableton setup takes a bit to load and this can be a hassle when wanting to just do something quickly on Push.

Ableton 9.1.4

PS: I apologize; this is probably mentioned somewhere else in a forum thread but it said my words were too "common" to search. The other threads I found on google were related so some unrelated issue I don't have. This issue has been bugging me for a long time!

sub question:
is it fine to leave Push on all the time?

i'd love to have it always ready to use but I want it to last a long time and not have any issues, LEDs go out, etc over time.

What if you were to load a new project or reload the project? Does it cause Push to join the party?

It's more ideal to have your controllers powered on Before you start your DAW. If you just use the USB cable then possibly you could just have Push power on/off with your PC? In any event the Power button is not that inconvenient to use.

In regards to leaving Push powered on... I personally wouldn't. The LED's would have more of a chance to just burn out and again, there is a power switch on the thing which makes it rather simple to turn off. If you have a few pieces of gear that need to be switched on/off with your PC/DAW then look into a switched power board that you can operate with a single switch or something.

problem is that i often will leave live running and come back to it, but like you said, I need to turn off the Push.
if I have to have Push on FIRST, this means uneccesarily restarting live all the time....

It should come back and start communicating even if switched on after Live. Does for me on Windows.

I guess it depends how long you leave Live running for. I will sometimes leave my workstation and gear switched on all day even if I am off doing other things as I do like to just get on with it but I will always shut everything down when going to bed or really not working any longer.

The other thing to maybe have a go at is load a Live set with your Push ON then switch Push off then back on again. If it doesn't come back linked to live (has the message to start live) try activate MIDI Map mode (Ctrl+M) then deactivate. This will cause a midi dump of all controls to a controller. Works when using Touchable on iPad and on my MCU when it doesn't sync to a set for the same reason. Curious if that would also work for the Push.

I tried Command-M (mac user) and Command-M again to leave the mode... I was super excited at the possibility of this fixing it but it didnt, sadly!

Furthermore, opening a different session doesn't fix it either. I have to fully restart ableton, which takes a minute.

I wouldn't be so annoyed, but the Push is supposed to be this "instant ideas" easy to use plug and play device... but it kind of ruins the magic when you have to restart everything whenever you want to use it or pre-plan when you are going to use it and turn it on before running Live (I dont always necessarily use the Push when I work)

That said, I still love ableton and Push, I just hope this problem gets fixed in an update soon

With mine, I was able to resolve same issue by turning off push 1, then unplugging power cord from back of device, plugging it back in, turning it back on, and everything lit up. Hope that helps
