hi,
i am trying to play and record electric guitar with live8,i have an amp ,effects box(behringer vamp2) which makes a lot of hiss in the system,, and audio interface.(alpha lexicon...i am trying to hear the guitar thru the amp and effects but also trying to record,,(line out of amp into the intruments plug of audio interface....) but the sound on my monitor speakers is bad.when played back..
i am not able to split the signal ( do I need a mixer? ) I could bypass the effects and amp but the sound is bad plus no effects unless i use ableton effects...
whats the normal setup ?

Skip the amp.
V-Amp line out l and r direct to line in 1 and 2 rear of the lexicon.
Record either one track with a stereo track input (external - 1/2) or two tracks with mono track inputs (external - 1 resp. 2).
Set these tracks' monitoring option to off.
Do direct monitoring for recording through headphones/monitor mix pot through the lexicon.

On another note, in case you don't really want to use the stereo effects from the V-Amp, but only, e.g., the distortion, just use the left output of the V-Amp. That's the one the manual states for mono use. Or use both in the dual mono setup in Live I described above and discard or mute the right channel/track.

Give any of these a try and find the sound you're after. Often enough it's easier to have the guitar as a mono source and shape the tone with Live's effects or plugins.
