Drum Rack Envelope Control for Instrument's multiple chains

Ok so that's a complicated subject name.
In a nutshell I've setup a drum rack following BT's cracking tutorial on youtube.
Essentially you create an instrument with multiple sounds that you can scroll through. You then assign an instrument like this per drum sound in a Drum Rack allowing for easy sound selection in one Drum Rack. This is all great but what I would really like to do is have control over the envelope of each sound in the drum rack. Ordinarily, with one sound assigned to each note in the drum rack that would be a simple case of assigning the release of each sound to a control source - in my case a controller keyboard.
However, because each note in the drum rack then has anything from 40 to 80 sounds in the instrument assigned to it I'm stuck on if there's an easy way to have a kind of template envelope that gets imposed on the chosen sound or not.
Has anyone come across this? Is there an easy solution? Am I missing something obvious?
I did search the forums but nothing jumped out addressing this issue. Happy to expand if the above is confusing.
