recording midi CCs in session clips - yes, again

As I have had a little bit to drink and dont feel like alienating my gf right now, I think its time to get all annoying about recording midi CCs into session clips all over again.

When I first saw Live It seemed so obvious - every function layed out, with barely a need to look at the manual.
every part seemed self explanatory - I happily / stupidly explained the functions to my friends ..thus:

" you can record all your playing in patterns like an old style sequencer and mess about with the midi controls and they all record to those clips - so you can leap from one effect setting to another - from pattern to pattern"

because that seemed the obvious way it should work.

when I tried it and it didn't work I was confused. I assumed I was doing something wrong. I have tried many times since. how can this obvious function be missed out? I want to play notes twiddle dials and then it all repeats back .. but no!

I could understand it in Live3 because there wasn't really any midi support / clips... but in Live 4 it was a really odd ommission.

I am now getting voices from the spirit world that it may not be possible in Live 5. Is it me or is this getting weird!

you get the idea .. moan moan , complain complain.

Yes, recording CC automation to session clips definitely is something that would seem sensible given the layout of Live. So much so that I just couldn't take no for an answer.
The remedy is Plogue Bidule (for now and for those like me who cannot wait for Live 100 to implement obvious features).
You can download Bidule free for a limited time. Once downloaded, go to the forums section of Plogue.com and download the VST bridge. Load the Bidule VST bridge to a Live MIDI track, within Bidule VST, load a Midi Splitter along with a "CC to Params" and connect that to the proper MIDI channel on the splitter. Within Live, select Bidule under "Midi To" and finally on the last menu below, select the appropriate MIDI channel.
Believe me, it may sound more difficult than it really is and if you are like me, impatient SOB, then this is the temporary solution. Bidule in and of itself is a fun app to use anyways.

I got really frustrated about this as well...

It seems absolutely absurd that you CAN:

1: automate parameters using clip envelopes.
2: remote control those parameters using midi cc#s
3: record midi cc#s onto clips in session view
but not 4:

RECORD PARAMETER CHANGES directly!

By the way,
did you ever notice that ableton users are overly excited about the software 10 months a year, and complain 24/7 the last two months?

Yes, it comes handy.

Had something to drink like angstrom, but is the question here basicly that instead of drawing controller curves in the clip view thoses things would be recordable?
I support that!
AND: It's frustrating to me that the automation part of the clip is hard linked to the main tempo!
Suppose you have a nive sine like controller curve for a clip - you can't change the speed of the automation to your liking.

Yeah this blocks some cool synth effects at times so the option to "unlink" from the main tempo would be nice.
Drawing in automation is soooooo not "going with the flow" of creativity if you know what I mean so yeah, basically the request is too have realtime direct automation recordings onto session clips.
Conny.....you drink too much :P

Also monitoring options should be extended from
"On, Auto, Off"
to
"On, On for CCs, Auto, Off" (Perhaps with soft takeover for the CCs)
so one can have a Synth play prerecorded notes and you also can manipulate
the sound with you MIDI knobs while performing.

We definitely need this feature.
It should record from midi and input in the gui like the arrow keys (powermate  )

Another day goes by where I wish Live could record Midi CC performance data into Session clips.

I really miss this feature. I play my synths and twiddle the knobs to get good sounds in a loop ... it's the way I've always done it. Performance!

I am reduced to looping my synths through my Angstrolooper just so I can get the sound of control automation. It's still Live's weirdest ommision.
