I was at a Live workshop with Robert Henke last weekend and I couldn't quite figure out how to desribe this at the time so I didn't get to ask him. Darn. I think I've got it now:
I'm wondering if there is a way to assign a knob on a midi controller to be able to control whatever is highlighted at any given time. In other words, if you click a volume knob with your mouse, the knob will control that and then if you click a decay knob in Impulse, the knob will control that.
Does that make sense?
It would be extremely useful for me as I've more or less run out of knobs on my midi controller.
anyone know whether this function exists?

I don't know if this exsists. But i remember posting a similar feature request

I've always thought every vst and daw should have this;

- The mouse is good at selecting, but sux at twisting knobs.

- Knobs suck at being everywhere at once, or trying to have 800 on a controller for every parameter.

Kind of an endless knob!

I had hoped the Griffin thingie would have been this, but it was not so.

Hopefully it will get implemented one day through midi or usb or both!

I use my Griffin PowerMate ( http://griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/ ) for this purpose exclusively. By assigning the PowerMates primary function to up and down arrows, its click to enter, and its click and turn to left and right arrows, I am able to change ANY on screen parameter I click to select, as well as being able to navigate the clip fields in the session view AND launch clips. What exactly was the trouble you were having with the PowerMate Kodama?

Can you explain that again? So you have 2 clicks available? I'm very interested in how you use it ...

The powermate has several differnt functions beyond just that of a simple knob.
I will list the functions and thier corresponding assignments as well as what that allows me to accomplish in Live.

Rotate Right - arrow key up - allows me to interact with any fader or knob I have highlighted within Live, as well as move vertically in the session view

Rotate Left - arrow key down - allows me to interact with any fader or knob I have highlighted within Live, as well as move vertically in the session view

Click (push down) - return key - allows me to to start any clip highlited within the session view clip grid

Click (hold down) and Rotate Right - arrow key right - allows me to move horizontally within the session view clip grid

Click (hold down) and Rotate Left - arrow key left - allows me to move horizontally within the session view clip grid

Long Click (push down longer than .5 seconds) - space bar - allows me to start and stop Live sets

hope this helps you get an idea of how powerfull a tool the PowerMate can be within Live... it literally will put ANY KNOB OR FADER immedatly under your fingertips.

So you use this in combination with your mouse I suppose? Nice nice ... I'm off ordering one

i thought i'd try this out, but live isn't responding at all. are you on mac or pc Vercengetorex? i'm on pc and i'm wondering if they're software isn't a little eccentric under xp...

I'm going to buy a Powermate, too. Looks pretty cool.

My final Live set will have over 1,000 scenes. I have assigned a blank scene for every letter of the alphabet, and put my scenes alphabetically after each blank scene, and assigned a QWERTY key to each scene. So if I want to find Aerodynamic, I just hit A and then scroll down to the correct scene. The Powermate will be cool for that, especially if I can then launch that scene with the Powermate.

Anyone assigned the Powermate to the cross-fader function?

Hi Hambone1, just as areminder, are you aware of that:

So if you have 8 tracks, you can have 10 buttons..

1xbutton scene up
1x button scene down
8x buttons tracks 1-8

that way you can pick your scene(row) and then fire a clip within that scene (column).
