In Ableton 9 I get this weird situation where a track gets a red shade in the background and I can't edit it anymore. When I click on that track it just shows a symbol like: ΓΈ

How do I fix this?

The only reason I can think that a track could turn red is if it is currently armed and you are in the act of recording. Stop the set or at least turn global record off and see if you get your editing powers back.

I am having this issue now on Live 10. I have never encountered this before. How do you move past it to edit tracks again?

I just had this exact issue an hour ago!

(Live 10. Intel Mac running OSX 10.14.6. )

I've never seen this before and haven't found other info on it.

I was able to get the "RED" Arrange view Track to go back to normal - After I recorded into that track from the Session view.
-- then hit UNDO to go back to where I was before - and I was good to go.

Seems like it's easy to fix....but what is happening here?

A bug? Something I did wrong....?

In case it helps someone more knowledgable then I - get to the bottom of this....

Here are a few more details about what I ran into:

...but read at your own risk....for the following passage speaks of the mysterious RED TRACK of DOOM & an un-killable Phantom Automation Dot..........

-While the track was "red", I did notice that the [ Re-Enable Automation ] button was also red and there was a red Automation dot on the Track Volume - indicating that this was automated. (Pressing the [ Re-Enable Automation ] button had no effect.)

-Strange because I didn't record or draw any automation data into that track or anywhere in the whole set.

-Next I Right-Clicked the automation dot (on the track's volume) and tried to delete the automation. Instead of fully deleting the automation, the automation dot stayed there - but turned from red to white..... (I don't use automation much in Live, so I'm not super familiar with it...FYI)

-Anyway, I kept trying to delete the "phantom automation", but nothing seemed to do anything.

-I believe the [ Re-Enable Automation ] changed back to it's default OFF state (grey instead of red) - after I tried to delete the track volume automation.
.....................

I'm back up and running....but would love to know more about what happened.

If it's a bug then I'd like to report it. Just yesterday I sent in a crash report - but for totally different reasons.... but Live is usually stable for me...

...........
wow - this got long.... hopefully it helps us figure this out....

: )

Some plugins (from NI for example) do produce these re-enable automation situation because of how they modulate things internally (or something like that) so it's not a Live bug.

Could also be a M4L device, either non perfectly optimized, or that shouldn't be used when e.g recording.

Hi guys, just know that I had the same problem rn and I decided to select the whole track cut it (Cmd+X) and then undo it (Cmd+Z). It worked!

You were not (accidentally) recording in Arrangement?
