Hey guys,

I was wondering if this is how mapping works in live sorry for the newby question. If I map a knob on my controller to a macro in live can I map the same physical knob on my controller to a different macro on a different plugin but also more importantly on a different channel and if so when changing the value on this knob that's mapped to two different macros will both macros be affected or only the one where I have its respective channel highlighted? Hopefully the later because that's what I want to achieve ..

Use a control surface script if there is one for your controller, but it's not a requirement.

All you really need to do is enable the device for Remote MIDI input (and output if it had feedback lights or something).

Live supports various controllers for easily controlling the program almost 'automatically'.

I'd open the help window and look for the Control Surface Reference section. That lists controllers that are automatically supported, plus usually shows images of the controls and what they do.

Usually in order for these to work, you must both choose the appropriate control surface AND have your controller set to the correct preset. The appropriate preset means that it is communicating where all the buttons and faders on your controller are the same stuff as what the script was written for.

If that doesn't work, there are a few other options. But I'd look up documentation for your controller on the maudio site plus the control surface reference first.
