Midi map sample start issue

Running into an issue with midi mapping the sample start point in a clip. After mapping, when I turn the knob on my midi controller (Akai mpk49) it moves the play head in large increments, not smooth and precise. warping is off, midi mode absolute. Anyone got a solution to this (other than using the mouse, or chopping my samples via slice to midi) thanks
