Help - Audio Interfaces / Syncing Korg Volcas With Ableton

Hi,

I'd like to sync the volcas to ableton but I think I might need a new setup/midi cables and a new audio interface.
I watched a few videos on how to sync the korg volcas to ableton through an audio interface or mixer.

Firstly I'd like to explain how I got my volcas working with ableton, without midi hookups, what leads I have etc.
Maybe someone knows what the hell I'm talking about that can help explain what I should be doing instead of what I've done.

I have a novation nio audio interface, and a novation zero sl controller (haven't used the controller with my setup yet)

Ok, so I got two korg volcas (beats & bass) I only have two cables (3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono Stereo Audio Cable 3m Lead)
Don't think I can plug the red/white rca's into the back of the nio for both volcas so I'm using a cable with two jacks on either end for one volca

Someone said I could run one of the rca phonos into the back of the nio, that way I could connect both volcas to the back of the nio, it'd be mono sound.
I tried that but didn't work for me so maybe forget about that idea for now.

For volca beats:

I plugged the phono jack into the volca beats, and the two red/white rca phonos into the back on my nio (line 1 & 2)

For volca bass:

I used a cable with two jack ends, it's connect to the headphones on the volca bass, to the headphone on the front of the nio.

The two volcas are synced to each other with the sync cable that comes with them, the nio is connected to a laptop via usb, running ableton.
I opened two audio tracks, Audio Track A is set to Channel 1 (which plays volca beats) Audio Track B is set to channel 2 (playing volca bass)

This was nice to learn, I can arm each audio track or any other track and record them to arrangement view,
But I won't be able to work with midi or sync the volcas to ableton with this setup right?

I have two pioneer mixers setting there, only use them for turntables, didn't try hooking the volcas up to a mixer.
I noticed my novation zero sl has two midi outs, so maybe I could use that for the midi sync setup? for just two volcas though.

This is where it gets a bit confusing for me because I haven't done any of this before, trial and error.

I was thinking maybe I should invest in another audio interface with 10 or 12 channels for when I want to add more live instruments.

Hope someone out there has a few ideas and knows what I'm trying to do.
Maybe the only thing I need is a few midi in/out cables?

I think so, That's how we do it the studio. MIDI track connected to the Volca trough MIDI interface, ext for the audio signal, in our case connected via an Onyx mixer, which takes the audio back to the same track. We also record the audio to a sibling audio track from the MIDI track.

This means we use MIDI within Live, syncs the Volca and can record the result as needed.

Sorry for such a late reply, was posting a lot of forums at the time,
But thanks for the info, I'm still learning, might get a Mickie DL1608, they look pretty good.
But I don't think i want a big mixer just something compact.
