 This has been fucking with me for quite some time, but today was the straw that broke me.

I create a new set, record a couple doodles straight into it, and I'm done so i then go to Save Live Set; I make a new folder with the project file inside it and put that folder in the overarching "Ableton" folder in my computer.
It looks like it works; i look at all my clips and i'm like, "Eh, i'm gonna Collect All and Save just in case." So i do that, and it looks like it works as well. So i quit Ableton. Then i re-open it. And EVERY SINGLE FUCKING FILE I RECORDED IS OFFLINE.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK

it's true; i did select "Save Live Set" and not "Save Live Set As..."; but it's a new set, so those two options bring up the same dialogue. i thought it therefore wouldn't make a difference that i chose one or the other...no?

fuckity fucker mcfuckmuffin

Where is that overarching 'Ableton' folder?

Where is it looking for the missing files (you should see the location path when you click on the clip in question)

Did you check all the dialog boxes when it asks you what files to collect ?

the described order of events sounds weird to me
  1. I create a new set, record a couple doodles straight into it,
  2. I'm done so i then go to Save Live Set;
  3. I make a new folder with the project file inside it
  4. and put that folder in the overarching "Ableton" folder in my computer.

right, this reads oddly.
3: making "a folder with the project file inside it". A weird description, you shouldn't see the Ableton project folder until after you save, at which point it gets created. If it's there before you save, then something is weird. 4: "and put that folder in the overarching...". You then put it somewhere? It sounds as if you are moving things after you have saved them. It sounds like you are moving a project folder, and then moving the folder containing the project. That will always break everything.

How I save
  1. I create a new set, record a couple doodles straight into it,
  2. I'm done so I then go to Save Live Set using "Save As"
  3. I navigate to my my master song folder called "D:/Steves Ableton Songs/",
  4. I make a new sub-folder for the project, for example the new folder:"D:/Steves Ableton Songs/New song name/"
  5. I save into that folder, and I am done, and nothing breaks

What's with all this folder-making anyway? When you first save a Live set, Live automatically creates the folder, non?

When I save a new set, it goes into my "ideas folder" (Projects/Ideas/2014/2014-11-27_plus-meaningful-descriptive-project-title).

There's no need to create a folder for the project.

 "fokk you and your holecrew"

its clear what you have done :D

you create outside of Live a folder and drop@and drag
outside of Live parts of your Project into there.

then you save your project into the old location within live
and straightly delete this project, because you think
you have done any drop&drag safety save savingsings...

UhhÄhhh

i mean something is def weird with it anyway: no, it doesn't automatically make a project folder when i do "save" or "save as"; it just saves it as a single .als file in my Ableton folder.
This is my folders/whatever setup, btw. (it's a mac)

Macintosh HD: Users: bgelber: Music: Ableton

And within 'Ableton' are all my project folders, with their respective set files inside them.
SO yeah it never makes a project folder for me automatically; i always press that "New Folder" button at the bottom left of the Save dialogue so my .als goes in there, and then that goes within 'Ableton.'
So Angstrom no, i don't manually move anything. i'm pretty sure we're doing the same thing

One thing to recall

Go to  PREFERENCES  LIBRARY  COLLECT FILES ON EXPORT : ALWAYS

AND Don't allow it to save into a general folder.

Create your own wherever you want and save your projects in there.

I personaly create a folder by season. the autumn 2014 is about to end, it will be time for me to create a Winter 2014 folder and save my projects in there.

This is my way, just to give you a view. find your own way to safely save.

EDIT: + I never save on the main partition where the OS resides.

I think your problem is that you recorded doodles. Live does not handle doodles very well.
