Leonard Bernstein - What is Jazz?

My parents had this album when I was growing up.



Its from 1956 and its greatI Educational, humorous, and full of samples of, and about music - if you're that way inclined.

Nice find! I can dig it.

Sometimes it's nice to step out and listen to something totally different and appreciate it for what it is.

Actually, kind of reminds me of old Tex Avery cartoons.

Jazz in the year of 1956, very standard and solid. I began to like the Jazz from the 60's and I never quite was able to look in to the historical forms the same way. Jazz in the fifties is like a completely different story, it is almost closer to classical music that to the experimental forms of the last jazz pioneers.

Bernstein was a classical composer or conductor was he not?

Good to see these guys appreciate jazz...

Where are the new jazz artists???
