Anyone know how he/they do it and what he/they use for rograms,synths,hardware...etc.

is this stuff possible with Live and a fair synth? (like the Alesis Ion i have.)

He uses a Fostex 4-track, two Tandy microphones, and an assortment of kazoos.

Believe it or not, all his beats are beatbox. The Fatboys are his mentor.

ive always wondered how he did it too, but i think my recent conclusions are either reaktor or max/msp, where you can get complete granular control and infinite ways of mangling stuff...

Don't know bout his newer stuff but I think from Big Loda(The Best) and before that he used two Boss DR. #??? drum machines synced together. And obviously he uses a TB303, possibly a modded 303(devilfish?). He also uses a Fender Jazz bass and plays it very well. Other than that he could be using anything for synth leads, melodies, bass........

Its interesting to know what your favorite artists use but its even more interesting to get your own sound.

when I last saw him he had an MS20 and his bass which he played mostly.
Also though for the nastier sections - some kind of komputer setup which sent out wave images of the samples he was using to a data projector. so the screen was divided into 16 chunks with wave markers heading off every now and then
It wasn't that good actually, I was a bit unimpressed - although his live standards are notoriously variable right from terrible to f**king fantastic. Sadly it seems I got the first on :(

Luckily Jamie Liddel was on the same bill to the amazement of all present (who basically came to see squarepusher) he blew him away. Blew him away, put him in a box marked 'arctic circle' fired it out of a cannon and then set fire to it, a herd of bison ran over the box. That was just his intro.

tee hee.

i'm sure he changes things up.. he like everyone should trys new things..

he is also notoriusly known for using the amen break, arent we all, as well as a number of other classic dnb drumloops.

get jungle warfare, you'll never need another drum sample library.

I stand corrected. But I know he used a Jazz Bass in his earlier days(when his material was better, imho)

I only just intro'd myself to Squarepusher last night.....

Being a jazz bass player who likes DnB, must say it's pretty much exactly
what I've been aiming for. In a way....

Someone on LivePA said that they saw him using a MIDI pickup to program
breaks..... Not sure if they miss-saw.... Don't see the pickup in photos....
But I downloaded a few tunes, haven't had a chance to review them, but
remember hearing a break that was distinctly "slap bass" style rhythms.

Makes sense tho, this is exactly the layout I'm giving my drum pad
thingy.... A slap bass finger layout....

So glad I finally decided to check this guy out.

Bass + Jazz + DnB + Edgar Varse style avant guard = right up my alley.
