I've been unable to figure out a way to do this. I'm hoping that I'm simply missing something. Is it possible to add multiple samples to a drum rack's pad from within Push?

By the way if you do the configuration for individual sampler instruments first (instead of doing it inside of a drum rack) you dont have to sacrifice one macro.

Thanks for the reply. Although it's very cool, that's not at all what I'm looking for. First, that cannot be done from within Push. Second, I want to be able to add multiple layered samples to one pad from WITHIN Push. Not within Live.

Can't be done within Push.

You only can layer two sounds in Sampler in similar way than the above example, just don't distribute the samples per selection.

Ok, thanks. I suspected that was probably the case.

You could create a drum rack hybrid to do this. I have one I've built which allows me to create a synthesized kickdrum "bottom" and then flip through 128 different "tops" and adjust various settings such as filter crossover, tuning etc... all from the Push. It's obviously purpose built but I've found that's the best way to get things setup how you want to control them from the Push.

You could easily create a "layering" rack to do the same assigning macros to switch between samples of multiple 128's of samples allowing you to mix and match samples for layering purposes. You could setup macros to control volume of each sample so you don't hav e to layer unless you want. Though this isn't on the fly once you have some of these setup you could just load the instruments you created and layer the samples on the fly from the Push.

Another bonus is that you can just replace all of the samples in the "instrument" you create and have a new set of sounds to work with in the same context. Get enough of these and you'll have a virtually unlimited supply of new layered sounds you can make.

With this sort of setup you are probably going to have racks inside racks. This is actually a cool thing because you can setup 8 macros for each rack. So each part of the kickdrum could have it's own set of macros and then one set of "global macros" for both parts of the kick (or whatever drum you're layering). The only downside is that you'll have to "step" into the instrument on the push to access the next layer of macros. Though one button push on the Push isn't a big deal compared to clicking around with the mouse or limiting yourself on macros.

I also believe there is a 16 macro tool out there somewhere (maybe a max for live thing) that allows you to have 16 macros instead of just 8 if you feel limited there.

Yeah, I have no problem having to navigate into the instrument to use the inner macros. Definitely better than using a mouse.
