So I'm stuck in working out the different ways to do this...

I'm using Ableton's own Xiphosura Bass inside Ableton Live, and need to synch the pulse of the bass to some sounds on another track. The pulse is defined by Motion Rate...

If I can't do this, which would be the best tool to get the bass and sounds from the other track to pulse in synch?

Also just look at amplitude modulation (e.g. with Utility).

(1) stick a utility on the bass in session view
(2) find the automation envelope for gain (show/hide envelopes->device chooser-> control chooser)
(3) unlink it from the clip length and set the envelope length for one beat
(4) tweak it till it's got the feel you want

This is sometimes more precise than sidechaining.

you should look into the envelope follower Max for Live device

In fact, if you have M4L, the Little Enveloper is really great for the purpose, even better than Utility.
