Automation issues with Guitar Rig in Ableton Live

I put Guitar Rig 5 on a new Audio track and then group the instruments and effects, then I map my macro control to whatever piece in my Guitar Rig set-up, such as the volume pedal. It all works fine and I can record the audio along with the midi automation, but as soon as I add a new Guitar Rig instrument to a new Audio track, my mappings stop working. The mappings are still there when I click Edit Midi map, however nothing happens when I move my pedal. The Automation Arm button is activated the entire time too.
Is there some setting I am missing or is this a bug in Ableton or what?
I also have Peavey Revalver VST, which when I add to a new audio track, seems to not have the same effect. The mappings still work with the Guitar Rig track so long as I don't add another Guitar Rig instrument.
Oh and I'm using Live 9.1 32-bit.
