What else is there?!

I don't get the obsession with death in all these obituaries and R.I.P threads

We all die, that's just a fact of life, deal with it...
This kind of attitude is why I'm never coming back. RIP Ableton forum.

Oh and you will certainly be missed......

....just not by me ;-)

I'll agree with you on this one. The Lounge has been tumbleweeds for at least a couple weeks now. Leonard Nimoy dies and users have to chime in like he's a member of this forum or this is the family's official book of condolences. Even john gordon spent his monthly post aimed at your insensitivity on this most scared of topics. This is some serious facebook level slacktivist bullshit.

A RIP thread on a poster is something I could get behind, and I found this one:
Saying goodbye to a friend, Leedsquietman passed away.
quite touching back in the day. (<--I was still mostly a lurker back then so I found it insincere to also post in it.)

Though the same thing here nowadays?! 8O I'm not so sure...

But for actors etc. I always think this is just the public pretending to care because piety demands it, while inside most are probably more like "so what?!"

At least that's what I want to believe. But then you see bullshit like the death of Lady Di and all my respect for people goes out the window :x

This amount of disrespect can only come out of disappointment ;-)

I don't think there's anything wrong with expressing sadness at the passing of someone who you grew up watching. Shows like Star Trek shaped my appreciation for Sci fi, and obviously someone like Spock was a huge part of that being such a unique character at the time.

Am I going to hold an all night vigil and build a shrine to the guy? No, but nothing wrong with taking a few minutes to remember someone important and sharing some memories (even funny jokes) with others who feel the same way.

Zigactly. The guy defined an era. And as a human being he seems to have been a good guy.

What's wrong with raking a moment to appreciate the life of someone who gave some enjoyment to others in his life?

Because this thread wasn't sufficiently about Tom.

The RIPs I found the most touching were all the tweets from NASA employees commenting how his character and that TV show was part of their reason for getting into science and wanting to work at NASA in the first place. I'm not sure how you can spin that kind of respect into something smarmy? but I have no doubt someone will accuse them of 'caring about famous people they shouldn't care about' or some such nonsense.

don't hold back eyeknow

and to the rest:

Sorry I don't feel it. Guy was an actor. A TV actor at that. Chasing mosters of the week to sell more soap.
Who you are talking about is his role (which he played quite woodenly btw.).
You miss people being like Spock. Cool, I get that. He definetely seemed better than most people I ever met. But Spock was not real you know ;-)

Ah, having an opinion and expressing it, makes me an attention whore. I see.

And then you try to remedy the fact that the thread wasn't sufficiently about me, by making it about me?!

Damn dude, remove that plank from your eye and take a look in the mirror sometimes!
