Does anyone know of a VST arpeggiator that can do the smooth mountain-style motion when using several octaves (straight up & down)? Everything I've tried so far acts like Live's arpeggiator: each octave gets treated as an isolated segment so it ends up creating a stepped pattern. What I'm describing is in tons of vintage synths. It *should* be a no-brainer for software developers so I'm completely baffled why it's so difficult to find an easy way to do it. I've tried the Kirnu Crean, which requires a seperate MIDI track and needs to be programmed based on how many notes are in each chord (in other words, it's both overly convoluted and limiting).

Sidenote: Live's arpeggiator is painfully basic. Am I the only one who thinks this?

Xfer's cthulhu is an awesome arp that allows all kinds of control over the arp. It too requires a separate MIDI track, but it's not all that difficult to just route the MIDI out to another track with your VST/hardware. It's cheap too.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm trying the demo now. It's set up just like Kirnu Cream and I don't think it can do the thing I described.

You can do this in live's arpeggiator. Just set "Distance" to 12 and "Steps" to the number of octaves you want it to transpose through

Edit: sorry, missed the point - the "up" and "down" modes work, but the Up&Down is different - never noticed this before! My bad.
