anyone else having problems manually typing in values for parameters in VST plugins?

I can double click a field and make it highlighted, but the keyboard does not enter in any numbers.

im experiencing this with every plugin I bring up (Ohmboyz, Hyperprism, Waves, DFX, etc...)

Mac OS 9.2.2
Live 2.01
Powerbook 1GHz

cheers.

bump...

anyone else exhibiting this problem?

REALLY annoying. impossible to enter in specific values for parameters in VST plugins. if you click on a value to enter it in, the window highlights as if you can type, but Live won't let you type anything in.

ugh...

o

Mac OS 9.2.2
Live 2.01

This is annoying ideed. The problem, as I understand it, is the VST specification: the displayed value is provided by the plug, but the host (Live) can only specify values for the plug parameters in a generic 0..1 range. If you were able to type in '-6' in a dB volume control, for instance, Live would not know how to convert that value into the 0..1 value range the plug expects. That's just one of the many shortcomings of the VST standard.

hi gerhard...

thanks for the reply...but im a little confused...

I don't see this problem in any other VST host that supports the VST 2.0 standard (Cubase, Nuendo, Logic, etc.)

And if my memory serves me right, I don't recall this being a problem in v1.52 of Live. But I'll have to reload v1.52 to verify.

So maybe you might want to check into this some more?

cheers.

Don't think you were ableto do that in 1.5.2 .. do seem to remember a reply in another tread about vst implementation that Live's main objective in the 1.5->2.0 lifeline was to support the vst 1.0 spec.

field entry was in v1 of the VST spec. You can retrieve both the internal value, 0 - 1, and the "real" value. It's nothing specific to VST 2.

What Gerhard is writing is correct ,you can only view real values in the editor of the host not edit them.

What you can’t do in Live is editing values with keys is in the VST plugins own editor window (This works in other hosts). The reason why it doesn’t work is because the VST custom edit window is a floating windows under Live(Mac OSX and Mac OS9). A floating window is not able to receive keystrokes, because the window can't have focus. We are thinking about ways to improve our plug window management for the next major version of Live; we might be able to come up with a solution that allows plug windows to get the keyboard focus.
