Ok so I already have a couple of good ideas for ableton. one is link to grid automation. It's really annoying that I can't do this and it would be helpful to do so. Another is smart sidechain compression. Let's say you have a drum and bass clip and you want to sidechain a channel to only the kick in the clip. You could select the kick withing the clip to sidechain and ableton locates the other kicks within the clip And sidechain it.

The only work around I've found for the grid-lock automation is using the draw tool and creating breakpoints that way then adjusting them. I would agree cutting out the extra steps would be convenient for speeding up my workflow.

As far as your sidechaining is concerned... You can do that with gates and compressors already with the side chain feature within them which allows you to select your key (source) for sidechain compression. You can then designate multiple compressors for multiple keys you want to sidechain off of.

also, another workaround to the draw automation is to highlight the range you want to automate on the grid, then shift click the automation line in the range and it will create two breakpoints at the highlighted range borders that are snapped to the grid.
