freeze when opening set

when i try to open a specific live project,
- first i get the "locate sample" dialog and select cancel
- then "continue searching for missing files?" and select cancel
- the the set never loads and i get the "spinning ball" and have to force quit Live
it's a pretty big project..any clues?

MacOSX 10.3.9
powerbook g4 15in 1ghz
1gb ram
